Learn what goes into Horizon's construction process. From Victoria's leader in custom homes, renovations and commercial construction.
Whether we’re building your custom home, renovating your kitchen, or constructing your new office space, we believe early collaboration is the key to success. The sooner we talk, the sooner we can team up to brainstorm ideas and make cost-saving suggestions that will add value to your project.
The first thing that most people want to know is how much will this cost? Our financial feasibility study is a way of coming up with some practical numbers to help you avoid wasting cash venturing down blind alleys. It’s also a chance to understand the hidden costs which may impact your budget. Knowing your financial boundaries before you start the next step, design, is the key to a positive outcome.
Now that you have an understanding of the numbers involved, you have avoided the first costly mistake most people make, which is choosing a design before knowing the budget. Doing this prevents disconnects between the designer and your financial expectations. So whether we’re working with your existing designer or matching you with one that meets your style and tastes, you can be confident that everyone is moving in the same direction.
One of the most intimidating stages for anyone contemplating a construction project is navigating through the various levels of permits and approvals. But not with Horizon. Because we’ll have already worked out most of the outstanding issues in the budget and design phases, you’ll slice through the municipal red tape with few, if any, surprises. And you’ll avoid those uncomfortable confrontations with neighbours before the construction starts. Any hiccups along the way will be handled efficiently and professionally by Horizon’s municipal consultants.
After we have approvals in place, we start breaking ground with demolition of any existing structures and excavation of the site. We follow with foundation work, framing, and finishing. During construction, one site foreman is responsible for your project from start to finish. Our crews never bounce from site to site, leaving you with days or weeks of little or no activity. We recommend joining the Holmes Approved Homes program, which gives you an additional level of quality assurance from an internationally recognized third party. Feel free to visit the site at anytime. If you can’t visit, no worries, as we supply detailed progress and expenditure updates at regular intervals.
We take pride in the long-term relationship we create with you. We do this by being there for you long after the build, whether that means connecting you with material manufacturers, skilled tradespeople, or responding to your warranty requests. We are a licensed, bonded, and insured company with the Homeowner Protection Office. And as long-standing members of the Vancouver Island Construction Association, you have the assurance that we must adhere to BC’s strongest ethical and accountability standards.
